Sound art to sound poetry workshop | BETON7, Center for the Arts, Pydnas 7, Votanikos, Athens, Greece, in the context of V-Ideas

Wherever they occur among the arts, the significance of sound is always made manifest though a context of techniques, motives, strategies, gestures, processes and grammars. The medium of sound can be at once spatial, interventional, unifying, corporeal, aggressive, involving, sculptural and political. Indeed, what strikes our ears is already penetrating us. Sound art is able to initiate into shared aural spaces, to bridge bodies and to create new connections between quotidian spaces and dissimilar topographies, both external and internal.

Edge Condition | Immersed in Sound Vol.1 sound art festival and the Sound Art to Sound Poetry workshop bring together local and international artists, each with very distinct approaches, sets of language, tools and methodologies concerning the use of sound. The selected works presented during the main two exhibition days of the festival spread from the exhibition space of BOILER and into the surrounding public spaces of Athens. Ranging from installation art, performance art and music production, to poetry and programming, the diversity within the festival is a reflection of the multi-layered range of approaches existing within the field.

In the framework of the festival we further develop a discursive environment through the group workshop Sound Art to Sound Poetry, which took place in collaboration with the sound poets of the British – based publication house Veer books, and intermedia artist and lecturer Dimosthenis Agrafiotis, at BETON7 Center for the Arts. The case-study oriented workshop focuses on the use of sound in performance artist's work, providing a platform of exchange and discussion across disciplines and geographical loci about the development of artistic processes and concepts in sound art.
