"I searched the Wiki English page for the word "Asia", extracted some of the text on the page, and pasted it to the google translate page, pushed the button “listen”, but chose the Chinese language to read. So the sound of the work turned to a very strange form. The language sounds like Chinese, but in an English tone, becomes a ridiculous language. The video-work is comprised of found footage from US warplanes during World War II battle in the western Pacific Ocean, that I captured from Internet Archive (archives are public resources) and rearranged. The key question is by whom was the concept of Asia produced?"
Siou Ming was born in 1988 in Taipei, Taiwan. He has an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Art. As a media artist, he works in the mediums of sound art, digital video, and electronic music. His starting point is often sound, and he focuses on exploring the subtle perception of life, the rhythmic systems in the environment, and the different forms of living we are faced with today. He has completed many artist-in-residency projects around Taiwan, and participated in socially engaging art projects around the country.
